Fernando Verdasco was born in Madrid, Spain, on 15th November 1983, to parents Jose and Olga. He was fortunate to have two hard court tennis courts available, at home, to him to play on and so, started playing tennis at the age of 4. He showed enough promise to have a full time coach at 8 years old. He was diagnosed with ADHD, as a child but, due to the anti doping rules in tennis, he never took medication.
He turned professional in 2001, and has worked hard at his conditioning and mental strength. He won his first ATP tour title in 2004, when winning on home soil in Valencia. In 2007, he broke into the worlds top 30 and to prove his steady improvement finished in the top 20 the following year. This was the year he won his 2nd ATP title in Croatia.
The 6'2" tall, left handed star, has helped Spain win Davis cup titles in both 2008 and 2009, playing in the deciding rubber both times. His favourite surface is hard court and can serve with speeds up to 230kph.
He has recently signed with Dunlop, to use the exciting new Dunlop Biomimetic 300 racket for 2011. His ranking is sure to improve in 2011 after peaking at 7 as he is currently ranked 9 in the world.
His life off court, is just as glamorous and he posed naked for Cosmopolitan magazine, to raise awareness of male cancer. He has had a string of gorgeous girlfriends including, model and actress Dafne Fernandez, Model Priscila De Gustin, tennis player Ana Ivanovic and his current girlfriend, model Jarah Mariano. He was introduced to Jarah by Andy Roddicks wife, model Brooklyn Decker. |
