Michelle Wie Sporting Profile Michelle Wie is a big star in womens golf. She was launched onto the world stage at a young age but, has only started to reach her full potential in 2010. Michelle was born to Korean parents in Hawaii, USA, on the 11th October 1989. He was destined to be a golfer from a very young age and started playing at the age of 4 years. Her parents were a big influence on her career, her mother won the South Korean amateur golf championship in 1985 and her father was her coach. started golfing at a little over four years old in her home state of Hawaii. Her father, B.J. Wie, started teaching her.
 At the age of 11, she was winning many of the amateur tournaments, she played in. Her long term goal was to turn professional and emulate her idol, Tiger Woods. Michelle, had many pictures of Tiger on her bedroom walls to act as a reminder of her goal, she also attended Stanford university, as did Tiger and their major sponsors are Nike. Given her success on the amateur scene it was inevitable that should would turn pro. She was launched onto the pro circuit with more sponsorship deals than many of the top men.
She turned Pro aged 16 in 2005. She was not able to play in any tournament, unless she had a sponsors invitation, as LPGA rules stated all players must be aged 18 or above. So in her early years her participation was limited. She didn't get off to the greatest of starts, as her first tournament as a pro turned into disappointment, having finished 4th she was later disqualified for signing an incorrect scorecard. She missed the cut in her other event, that year.
Not the most popular player on the tour, with many of her peers stating the 2007 incident where she withdrew form a tournament after shooting an 88, claiming injury. Two days later she was seen out on the practice range leading to many unfavourable comments, regarding the validity of her injury.
Having failed to finish in the top 80 during the 2008 season, she had to enter the LPGA sectional Qualifying Tournament, where she finished tied 4th. This allowed her to enter the final qualifying tournament where she finished tied 7th, gaining her the eligibility to play full time on the LPGA tour in 2009.
She scored her first hole in one, as a professional, during the 2009 LPGA Championship. Her first victory came after 66 LPGA events, in the Lorena Ochoa Invitational, beating Paula Creamer by 2 shots.
Her next and by far the biggest victory came in 2010, when on the 29th August, she won the Safeway International by 3 shots. This win netted her the enormous some of $337500. As of January 3rd 2011 she was ranked number 10 in the world rankings, dominated by Korean women.
