Last night the nominees were announced for this years BBC Sports Personality Of The Year awards. True to form the list has sparked a huge debate. Not only for who people think might be the winner but, also for those that didn't make the list. For the first time, no women has made it on to the list of nominees, this has become the main talking point in the build up to the big night. We ask the question though, Which women actually deserve a place on the list ahead of those selected? We know we have many world champions in women's sport but do they deserve to be in the top ten of British sports stars for 2011. I think it has been a weak year for British sport generally, with a few exceptional performances. So who did actually make the list:-

1. Mark Cavendish (cycling)
2. Darren Clarke (golf)
3. Alastair Cook (cricket)
4. Luke Donald (golf)
5. Mo Farah (athletics)
6. Dai Greene (athletics)
7. Amir Khan (boxing)
8. Rory McIlroy (golf)
9. Andy Murray (tennis)
10. Andrew Strauss (cricket).

According to Ladbrokes it is already a two horse race, with Cavendish and Clarke predicted to battle it out for the SPOTTY honours. Mark Cavendish is at 6/5 and Darren Clarke at 15/8. Both would be worthy winners. Cruelly some quarters are suggesting the title should be renamed as 'Sports Person of the year', due to the lack of personalities on show, with notable exceptions. We expect Cavendish to win, who do you think will pick up the trophy come December?
