Living The Dream

The Adam Stansfield Foundation

, 2 min reading time

We get inundated with requests everyday to support fundraising and charity events. The majority of these are run by volunteers and a great credit to them for taking the time and effort to raise valuable funds. Unfortunately we cannot support every request however, we do support charities that have touched the lives of family and friends within our company. One charity we had an affinity with was The Adam Stansfield Foundation, which was set up by Adam's family following his untimely death from Bowel Cancer in 2010. Adam was a professional football player for Yeovil Town (2001 - 2004), Hereford United (2004 - 2006) and Exeter City (2006 -2010). Adam scored the 2nd goal for Exeter in the National Conference Play Off Semi-Final against our local side Oxford United, at the Kassam Stadium, which took the game into extra time. Exeter went on to win the game 4 - 3 on penalties but lost the final to Morecambe a few weeks later. The following year they did win their place back in the Football League , beating Cambridge United 1 - 0 a game Adam started. The following year he was part of the Exeter team than one back to back promotions, scoring 10 goals in 37 appearances. Adam then scored 8 goals in 2009/10 season before having his career cut short with the cancer diagnosis. The Adam Stansfield Foundation Following Adam's passing, his family set up The Adam Stansfield Foundation, which aims to give young people the unique opportunity to develop life skills through the power of football, whilst also raising awareness of Bowel Cancer. The ADF work with clubs, schools and young people across Somerset, Herefordshire and Devon, providing support, equipment and educational support. They are currently providing opportunities for under 16's to take the first Football Coaching Course - The FA Leaders Award. This allows them to work with their clubs and schools, gaining experience before they take their FA Level 1 Course. The Foundation are also providing a Coaching Pack for Primary Schools which has been warmly welcomed and appreciated by the schools who are currently suffering huge cut backs in funding. If you feel you can support The Foundation in their work please visit:- www.adamstansfieldfoundation.com to make a donation or contact them directly to discuss fundraising ideas. Sportsballshop are pleased to have been able to supply footballs and training equipment, which the children can use to hone their football skills.
