Premier League Stadium Capacity 2021/22

What are the current Premier League Stadium capacities?

Every year the list of teams in the English Premier League changes following promotion and relegations from the previous season. Generally speaking I find it interesting to check what the current Premier League Stadium Capacity is for each club. However some clubs have a reduced capacity as extensive building work takes place. Manchester United still have the biggest club ground in the Premiership. The capacity for season 2021/22 has fallen though by 739 since my last audit in 19/20 season. With this in mind, I not sure if this is down to building work or an increase in hospitality seating. This tends to bring in more revenue to the club but does reduce the amount of seats available.

Tottenham Hotspur have further increased their capacity by 788 seats bringing their fantastic new stadium up to 62,850. Markedly newly promoted Brentford have the smallest stadium with only 17,250 available each game. Meanwhile, Aston Villa have increased their capacity for this season by 654 seats. Brighton & Hove Albion have added a whopping 1030 seats to The American Express Community Stadium. Surprisingly Burnley and Chelsea see their capacities drop by 200 and 567 respectively.

What Are The Premier League Capacities In Order?

What Is The Total Stadium Capacities For The Premier League?

I last checked the Premiership Stadium capacities in 2019/20 seson. At the present time, the total capacity across the whole of the Premier League is 821,032. Giving an average of 41,051 assuming all grounds were equal. Following the recent pandemic clubs have been allowed to welcome fans back into the grounds. Of course this is welcome news to fans and clubs alike. Clubs will desperately need the revenue streams, although it doesn't seem to have slowed spending on transfers.

Ticket prices continue to rise for the most expensive seats. Recent research though suggest the average price across all grounds is around £32.50. In that case, assuming every ground was full to capacity each week, this would bring a revenue of £26,683,540 or £1,334,177 per club. As a result, this wouldn't pay the wage bill so clubs rely heavily on hospitality and tv revenue.

What Club Has The Largest Capacity In The English Premier League For Season 2021/22?

Manchester United's Old Trafford retains the spot as the largest ground in the Premier League. It's capacity is reduced for this season though and currently stands at 74,140. This is nearly 12,000 more bums on seats than the nearest stadium. Demand is still out stripping the amount of seats available though and time will tell if further developments take place.

What Club Has The Smallest Stadium Capacity In The English Premier League For Season 2021/22?

Brentford stand proudly at the top table of English football but have the smallest stadium this season. The American Express Community Stadium currently holds 17,250. If Brentford can stay in the top flight for a number of season's we can see this being increased quite significantly. Burnley have the next smallest ground but it is over 4000 seast bigger.
