We Predict Who Will Win The Australian Open Tennis 2020

, 2 min reading time

I admit the most credible predictions are made before the event starts so I apologise for the making my prediction 3 days into the Men's Australian Open. However, there have been very few surprises in the games so far so, wouldn’t have changed my opinion. The top ¼ of the draw has one stand out player, one Rafa Nadal who is number 1 seed by virtue of being the world number 1 player too. He will progress through to the quarter finals quite comfortably before having his biggest test when meeting 5th seed Dominic Thiem. So, Nadal semi-finalist number 1. The 2nd ¼ of the draw has the Russian rising star Daniil Medvedev aged 23 will, if seedings go to plan meet 7th seed Alexander Zverev in the quarter finals but we expect Medvedev to win in 4 sets. Semi Final 1 will be Nadal v Medvedev In the bottom half of the draw it really is hard to see past Federer and Djokovic, although we do expect Djokovic to be pushed to 5 sets by 21 year old Greek sensation Stefanos Tsitsipas. As for Federer 3 seeds have already fallen in his section of the draw. Semi-Final 2 will be Federer v Djokovic The bookmakers don’t often make mistakes when pricing up the odds and have these following listed on the 23rd January 2020 6/5 Fav Djokovic 9/2 Nadal 6/1 Federer 15/2 Medvedev So the bookies are predicting Djokovic to win his semi and they appear to be quite confident given how short the odds are. However the other semi is a bit closer to call. And we predict Medvedev will come out on top in what could be the best game of the tournament so far. The final will have Djokovic as an even stronger favourite to repeat his 2019 4th round victory over Medvedev. Don’t expect this to be so one sided though as Medvedev has improved so much in the last 12 months and at 15/2 offers excellent value. So to our prediction.....Medvedev to win in 5 sets even though his favourite surface is grass, to seal his 1st ever Grand Slam victory.
