Hockey balls - which one should i buy?

, 1 min reading time

With most sports, the choice of ball you use, is down to individual preference. What the deciding factor is, could be down to colour or size available. With Hockey, there is a massive choice of colours and types of ball but, which should you buy? I have talked before about the use of Dimpled or smooth balls. Most people have the belief that Dimpled balls are better on astro pitches but, the experts agree that for water based pitches, Dimpled balls are best. The sand based astro pitches however, would be better served by using a smooth ball. The difference in price, between the types of ball, are usually because of the core. The core improves with quality as the price goes up, cheaper balls have a hollow core. There are many different colours, White, Orange, Pink, Blue and Multi-coloured. The most popular ball used at club level is either the Kookaburra Dimple Saturn training ball or the Slazenger Club Dimple Training ball. Mercian and Malik are more popular in certain areas of the UK though. A popular Hockey Christmas stocking filler, is often a ball from the Kookaburra Burra Smooth range. It is cheap, looks great and there are a choice of colours to suit both Boys and Girls.
